Hike Along Walensee to Seerenbach Falls

We live in a city. Just under 200,000 residents, so for some, hardly a city at all, but for us, it is very urban. Sometimes the chaos of the city home makes us itchy for the calm and serenity only the natural world can provide. Feeling the desire to be close to natural landscapes, we jumped in the car and made our way to Walensee.

Walensee - Walen Lake

From the moment you start this easy route, you will be captivated by the torquoise water of Lake Walen (Walensee). This stunning body of water connects Glarus and St. Gallen. If you partake in this excursion in the summer months, plan to take a swim or enjoy another water activity while in the region. The lake is remarkably inviting this time of the year, plus there are bathrooms and a place to purchase food, so languishing by the water is very convenient.

This hike is pleasurable, as the majority is on a wide and paved path with beautiful views throughout. As you make your way to Seerenbach Falls (Seerenbachfälle) you will witness the three distinct waterfalls that measure an impressive 585 m in height. The trail will become more rocky and uphill as you make your way to the falls. If you are hiking with young children, we would recommend you carry them in a carrier on this section of the trail. Should you wish to stop for a picnic, the base of the falls is the ideal location with areas to sit and a grilling station.
